Lisa Curl and the Triplets soon will be stepping out of the familiar and into the more uncertain world of regional gigs, label hunting and broken tour vans, in the hopes of making a break and moving to the next level.
She quit her day job and the band will record one last demo Thursday night at the UCO Jazz Lab in Edmond.
“I’m excited about having an audience that we can feed off of,” Curl said. “We’re hoping for a good solid recording to use as a demo to open a few more doors, since we haven’t recorded together yet.”
GOALS
The band materialized out of the friendship of Curl and cellist Jenn Mills, who also played on Curl’s 2006 EP, “My Poppet, My Pigsnie.” After a night of rehashing rocky relationships, they agreed to focus on music and began playing together
The goal is to make enough inroads in surrounding states that they can begin touring with the full band. Should roster changes happen in the future, they want to maintain the current all-female lineup because they like the chemistry they’ve cultivated.
“Something as simple as how a song is supposed to go or a bad rehearsal ” there are things that are much more important to us,” Curl said. “And if we just want to sit around and talk about boy problems, we can do that, too.” “Charles Martin
