The City of Oklahoma City is inviting the public to help name a new dog sculpture that will be installed at the Oklahoma City Louisa McCune Animal Welfare Center.

The sculpture will be a welcoming feature at the new MAPS 4-funded facility, which is currently under construction and expected to open in 2027. The animal welfare center is named in honor of the late Louisa McCune, a longtime advocate for animal welfare and former director of the Kirkpatrick Foundation.

Community members are encouraged to submit name suggestions for the sculpture, helping to create a more personal and engaging landmark at the facility that will serve Oklahoma City’s lost, stray, and adoptable animals.

Additional details, including how to submit name ideas and deadlines for entries, are available through the City of Oklahoma City.

About the Project

The Oklahoma City Louisa McCune Animal Welfare Center is a MAPS 4 project designed to replace the city’s aging animal shelter with a modern facility focused on adoption, intake, medical care, and humane housing for animals. The center is part of a broader effort to improve animal welfare services across the city.
