Created by Hui Cha Poos in 2008, Race Dance has produced and participated in more than 50 performances throughout OKC, including original productions, Hip Hop Nutcracker, Racey and Raceless.
Inspired by cabaret-style shows, A Racey Affair will feature seductive performances designed to bring out the naughty side of the audience. Because of the mature themes, this will be an adults-only performance.
The concept for The Racey Show morphed out of a sexy fashion show the group held several years ago.
“The response from our audience was that they wanted to see more of that type of performance,” said Jennifer Conaughty, A Racey Affair producer-director. “Out of that, we produced The Racey Show, and the response was terrific.”
Conaughty said her goal for this show is to introduce Oklahoma audi ences to popular, mature entertainment offered in other large cities and highlight the seductive side of Race’s performers.
The show features women of Race Dance and its companion troupe, Men of Race, also making it a great choice for a romantic date or a girls’ or guys’ night out.
The show includes acts ranging from a classic fan dance to cuttingedge hip-hop.
“Each dancer has a fantasy personality, everything from the sexy CEO to the dream pin-up beauty,” Conaughty said.
Conaughty said one of the biggest challenges for her is making sure each number has something special to offer.
“Our choreographers and dancers have really stepped up to this challenge, and I’m so excited to see the vision brought to life,” she said.
Leading up to the event, the company worked with Los Angeles-based dancer and choreographer Rachael Markarian on a special piece.
“Rachael is well-respected in the dance community and has performed and choreographed many pieces for the burlesque community in L.A., so we were very excited to get the opportunity to work with her,” Conaughty said.
She is excited to share the work of the dancers and choreographers with audiences and hopes the combination of skill and sex appeal will sweep audiences away from the mundane of the everyday.
“We would love for this show to grow and be featured more than once a year and be highlighted at other events around the city,” she said.
