Toast away

Here are four crisp and flavorful light wines perfect for toasting this mother’s day.

Matua Sauvignon Blanc

Touted as New Zealand’s first sauvignon blanc, this wine comes from the Marlborough region, which is the same area of origin from which motueka hops for beer hails. Both are known for their lemon-lime citrus notes with hints of tropical berries. “Matua” is a Maori word meaning “head of the family” and this white wine certainly demands attention.

Joel Gott Chardonnay

Another tropically-tinged choice, the Joel Gott Chardonnay has been rounded out after a quarter-century of experimentation through California vineyards producing the crisp dryness tends that overtakes any fruit flavors contained within for a satisfying Napa Valley flavor finish.

14 Hands Unicorn Rose

Another crisp choice, this rose hits the palette with a carbonated finish that calls into the foreground its white wine characteristics. Blended from Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot grapes in Washington, this one can be found in standard wine bottles and in cans perfect for spring outings.

Chloe Prosecco D.O.C.

Prosecco has a dedicated fanbase and Chloe does too, producing a unique crossroads of fruitiness and bubbles. A warning to prosecco newbies: contents are under pressure and pop like a champagne cork, which should give you a strong hint as to its carbonation and flavor profile.
