Some things just go well together: peanut butter and jelly, spring and baseball, Frank Sinatra and Las Vegas. The Chairman of the Board arguably was never more at home than prowling the stages of Sin City nightclubs, dishing out snappy patter and electric readings of signature tunes like "Fly Me to the Moon" and "The Lady Is a Tramp."
Spread across four CDs and one DVD, "Sinatra: Vegas" is an expansive document of Ol' Blue Eyes' nearly six decades entertaining in the Nevada desert: Each disc contains an entire concert, with one devoted to a 1966 performance backed by Count Basie and his orchestra.
If nothing else, "Sinatra: Vegas" is a searing, vivid introduction for the casual listener and essential set of previously unreleased performances for the die-hard fan; with biting wit and a flair for finding the soul in any song, Sinatra is, then and now, a showman for the ages.
