The first Oklahoma centennial electric guitar has just rolled off the assembly line and will be presented to centennial officials in the fall.
The guitar was made by Sand Dimas Guitars, and though the company is headquartered in Southern California, it has its roots " and its products undergo their final assembly " in Tulsa.
Oklahoma State University graduate and Tulsa native Lloyd Prins, who founded the guitar company about 20 years ago, said the guitar is handmade from good components.
"The guitar has a great bluesy rock sound," Prins said. "It can pull off a lot of different tones and is a great hot-rod guitar, but could easily be played by a more conservative player."
CRAFTMANSHIP
The guitar body is made of alder, the neck is maple and the fingerboard is rosewood, he said. The finish is a natural wood tone and the Oklahoma centennial logo has been "laser-engraved" on the lower part of the guitar body.
The guitar company also will make 77 "limited-edition" centennial guitars, Prins said " one for each of Oklahoma's 77 counties " in addition to the ceremonial guitar given to the commission. The guitars each will be numbered along with the name of the county it represents and be available for sale to anyone who has the $1,907.
