With more than 200 teachers from the Oklahoma City School District looking for work, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber has launched an effort to help them. A Teacher Workshop and Opportunity Fair is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University.
The chamber is partnering with the American Federation of Teachers Local 2309, the Oklahoma Education Association and Professional Oklahoma Educators to support teachers making a possible transition in the workforce. The event, exclusive to teachers who have been laid off due to Oklahoma’s funding crisis, will feature:
” a luncheon with tips from career search experts;
” workshops on social networking, interview preparation, résumé writing and cover letters;
” mock interviews and résumé review sessions;
” and an opportunity fair, featuring a growing list of local employers and universities.
“These are talented individuals who made a commitment to our city’s future by teaching our children. Now in this important transition time for some of them, we want to make sure they stay a part of this community,” said Dave Lopez, vice chair for education and workforce development for the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber.
