We all do it: make a last-minute mental checklist to remember our keys and wallet and — oh — our gun. That’s something April Giddens-King forgot to do as she fled the Oklahoma City home she was attempting to break into.

The neighbors noticed something amiss and called the police. The suspect, in her haste, dropped her gun on the lawn. (Hey, it happens, right?) And in this economy, guns aren’t cheap.

According to a KFOR.com report, the suspect returned 10 minutes later and led the homeowners on a merry chase before being apprehended by police. We could all learn something from Ms. Giddens-King: Always secure your valuables before fleeing the scene of the crime.
