No longer are Oklahoma college frat boys’ parties the only ones front-and-center on the state’s largest newspaper.
Law enforcement officers, who enjoy cutting loose way too much, are the new party fouls recently revealed by The Oklahoman.
According to NewsOK.com, “wild partying that included extramarital sex and several nights of hard drinking” took place — in addition to narcotics assault training — at Camp Gruber in May. The training session offered annually by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Control brought more than 40 Oklahoma state, local and federal law enforcement officers together for the federally funded training.
The article doesn’t say too much about the training, though. Instead, readers get a glimpse at the termination and discipline notices handed down last month. The Department of Public Safety conducted the four-month internal investigation into the excessive partying at an event where alcohol was not allowed to be served.
“Absolutely not. … We do not permit it,” an Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Control spokesman told NewsOK.com.
Some Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers drank to the point of intoxication. One trooper took a video, which was later sent to others, of a female officer “lifting her shirt in front of other troopers.” There was even whoopee in the bathroom between two officers, but investigative reports show that was described as an “accident.”
OHP Chief Rick Adams related the non-training incidents to an “off-duty frat party.”
“A bunch of young men made a really bad decision, bad choices and they wish they could take them back,” Adams said in the article. “But you can’t take some things back.”
At Chicken-Fried News, we expect no officers arriving to next year’s training saying, “Let’s party.”
