Oklahoma City will show off its green techniques during Earth Week, April 12-18.
"Our goal during Earth Week is to let people know about the many green services offered by the city," said Autumn Radle, sustainability manager for Oklahoma City.
OKC's Earth Week features classes on how to ride bikes safely downtown, conduct a home-energy audit and start composting. Events geared toward recycling include a free shred day and a collection for hazardous waste, including ammunition, tires and computers.
Recreational events include a ladybug release at Myriad Botanical Gardens' Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory and a downtown nature hike focusing on the city's nature-inspired art. A full list of events and information can be found here.
Oklahoma City's year-round green efforts are explained at greeningokc.com, which lists the long-term goals and full-time organizations that Earth Week spotlights. City government officials want the information of Earth Week and greeningokc.com to encourage residents to practice sustainable living.
"Once people realize it makes financial sense for them to conserve, then our efforts become easier," Radle said.
