The Republican vice presidential candidate joined former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on a visit to the Cleveland Browns at practice last week. Ryan took a few moments to speak to the players and committed what some Oklahomans might call a cardinal sin: He mistook a Longhorn for a Cowboy.

As reported by the Associated Press, Ryan spoke to backup quarterback Colt McCoy, thinking he was starter Weeden.

“I
think he saw the red [practice] jerseys and got us mixed up,” said
Weeden. “But he’s got more important things on his mind right now than
me and Colt. It was a good laugh.”

That
kind of diplomatic, moderate response is just what this election season
needs. Too bad it’s coming from a football player instead of a
candidate.

On the plus
side, Weeden, a 29-year-old rookie, will be old enough to run for
president in a few years. How about politics after the NFL, Branden? We
know you’re the kind of guy who can talk football over a couple beers,
which apparently is not a strong point of the Romney/Ryan ticket.
