Instead of calling it Brady Street, it will be called Brady Street.

That’s because the council had come under fire since 2011 after This Land Press published a story detailing the background of the street’s namesake – city founder, politician, businessman and alleged Ku Klux Klan member Wyatt Tate Brady.

Now, the street will bear the name Brady in honor of Mathew Brady, a 19th-century photographer known for his images of American Civil War battlefields. The only problem is Mathew Brady has no connection with Tulsa.

Here’s even more stretching. One Tulsa councilman suggested the renaming will pay homage to an artist in a district that promotes
the arts. They might as well have named the street after another famous
Brady – Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.
