CFN couldn’t help but notice Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett trying to put our fair city on a diet. As a New Year’s resolution, Cornett reportedly challenged residents to lose a few pounds (say 1,000,000), according to The Associated Press.
“The message of this obesity initiative is that we’ve got to watch what we eat,” Cornett said, according to AP. “Exercise is part of it and the city is trying to change into a city that is less sprawling, has more density and is more pedestrian friendly, but you’re not really going to take on obesity unless you acknowledge that we eat too much and don’t eat the right foods.”
More than 2,600 individuals had registered at a new Web site as of Jan. 3, AP reported, with a total loss of 300 pounds at that point. Cornett, who reportedly trimmed down to 183 pounds from 217 in eight months, is still looking to lose eight more pounds himself.
We’ve asked our unpaid CFN intern, Bucky, to cut down on the sweet soda pop and pork rinds (you are what you eat). He only has enough lunch money for the vending machine, but we’re encouraging him to eat his fruits and veggies.
