Oklahoma State University /A&M Regent Burns Hargis turned in a letter of resignation today to Gov. Brad Henry.
The school’s official statement, released today, said Hargis is resigning in order to pursue the open presidential position. Former president David Schmidly resigned earlier this spring to be the University of New Mexico president.
Hargis, who appears on Oklahoma City television station KFOR’s Flash Point political series, serves as vice chairman for the Bank of Oklahoma. He graduated from OSU with an accounting degree and the University of Oklahoma law school.
“It was a pleasure working with Burns. He has been a valuable and committed member of the Board and he has served with distinction,” said Lou Watkins, OSU/A&M Board of Regents chair, in a statement. “His leadership, insights and ideas with be missed by the Board and the colleges and universities we govern.”
