By now, the country knows how the University of Oklahoma Sooners fared on Nov. 27. But what about Thomas Patterson?

Patterson, age 14, put his Pokémon trading card skills ” or is that skillz? We forget ” to good use at the Pokémon Trading Card Game City Tournament in Haltom City, Texas. As we spoiled a paragraph earlier because of your meddling questions, the Oklahoma City youth emerged as the ultimate victor, likely making his defeated opponents Squirtle in their britches.
The event was the first step toward a potential slot at the 2011 Pokémon World Championships, to be held next summer in San Diego, Calif.
To that, we say two things:
1. Congrats, Thomas!
2. Wait, Pokémon is still around?
