Letters to the Editor: July 22, 2014

How to shrink the tumor There is a notable phrase in your article on the cartels story (News, “Cartel Crossroads,” Ben Felder, July 16, Oklahoma Gazette): “… you set yourself up for failure anytime there is a war because that means somebody’s got to lose,” a seemingly direct admission that the drug cartels aren’t going […]

Prohibition, not pot, is the problem

Neill Franklin, executive director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), spent 34 years with the Maryland State Police working primarily in drug investigations. Franklin spoke earlier this month at a University of Oklahoma conference entitled, “The War on Drugs and Mass Incarceration: Myths and Realities.” During an interview with Oklahoma Gazette, Franklin said state lawmakers […]

Drug deal

Law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma continue to fight the War on Drugs, but it’s not solely for noble purposes. For certain, illegal drugs are seized and bad guys are put in prison. LETTERS

I’m not sure who these unhappy socialists are whom Mr. Rixmann obviously knows so well, but the World Happiness Report this year listed the countries of Norway, Denmark and Switzerland as the top three happiest nations on earth. Savages

Savages is a chance for Stone to hone his pulp fiction. Based on the best-selling novel by Don Winslow (who also co-wrote the script with Stone and Shane Salerno), the movie follows two best buds in California who cultivate some mighty fine bud. Ben (Aaron Johnson, Kick-Ass) is the philanthropic Buddhist of the multimillion-dollar marijuana-growing […]

True blue friends

According to Tulsa’s Fox 23, the drug world is doing a different kind of recruiting these days. Pseudoephedrine, one ingredient used to make meth, has been moved behind pharmacy counters to prevent those with a meth record from purchasing it. Cue the “smurfs.” No, not the little blue cartoons: the people who are paid up […]
