Oklahoma City Community College will host A Story Lab for Filmmakers, a free three-day workshop designed for students and aspiring filmmakers interested in hands-on experience and insight from working industry professionals.

The workshop will take place May 19-21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on OCCC’s campus, 7777 S. May Ave.

Participants will take part in interactive sessions, storytelling labs and career discussions led by filmmakers and television producers working in Hollywood and beyond.

The event concludes with From Sitcoms to Rock-Docs, a public conversation scheduled for May 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring:

  • Mike Caron, director and executive producer known for The Fairly OddParents on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon’s Danger Force
  • Amy Scott, director of the new Have You Seen Me Lately documentary about Counting Crows
  • Matt Payne, co-founder and CEO of Prairie Surf Media and writer/producer on Vegas, Memphis Beat and 24

Organizers say the workshop is intended to connect students and the community with working filmmakers as Oklahoma’s film industry continues to grow.

OCCC’s Gray Frederickson Digital Cinema Department was recently named one of MovieMaker magazine’s “25 Best Film Schools in the U.S. and Canada.” The program offers hands-on training in film production through industry partnerships and career-focused degrees and certificates.
