The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is teaming up with Red Coyote and Boldt for an evening fun run supporting monarch butterfly conservation on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The approximately 3-mile Red Coyote Zoo Run Club course winds through the Zoo’s 100-acre park and is open to runners of all paces and abilities. Proceeds benefit the Zoo’s monarch conservation efforts, with Boldt matching the first $5,000 raised.
The event coincides with the start of the monarch’s fall migration through Oklahoma, an important habitat along the butterflies’ annual route between central Mexico and southern Canada.
Participants can also demo running footwear and enter to win prizes. Runners 21 and older can sample Boldt Brew, a Belgian blonde ale made by Iron Monk Brewing Company.
