At first, he’s just looking for a score to get him out of town, but as he gets to know his underage employers and, more importantly, their English teacher (Leslie Mann, “The 40-Year-Old-Virgin,” “Knocked Up”), he starts taking his job seriously. But is it too late? “Drillbit Taylor” isn’t the worst movie in the world, but it bears certain comparisons to “Superbad” (same co-writer, producer, friendship dynamic among the young main characters), which is a hard act to follow.
The characters aren’t as super-likable, making it difficult to super-care what happens to them. Wilson comes across well as a homeless guy, but he doesn’t have that twinkle in his eye and his performance seems half-hearted. Not bad, but the group chemistry doesn’t quite gel, leaving things feeling a little undercooked. PG-13
