Eva Longoria Parker of TV’s “Desperate Housewives” stars as Kate, a type-A woman crushed by an ice angel on her wedding day, who returns from the afterlife to keep her husband-to-be from romancing the psychic (Lake Bell, TV’s “Surface”) who is trying to contact her. Seems that the man’s sister Chloe (Lindsay Sloane, “Nancy Drew”) wants the psychic to fake a message from beyond, telling Henry (Paul Rudd, “Knocked Up”) to move on with his life.
Borrowing elements from “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,” “Blithe Spirit” and “Topper” among others, screenwriter/director Jeff Lowell’s romantic comedy is smilingly amusing, but never guffawingly funny. The cast is pleasant, especially Rudd, who is a comic actor on the rise. Bell has some nice moments as well and easily steals every scene she shares with top-billed star Parker, who should have demanded more to do. PG-13
