More food and drink options are coming to the Plaza District, and they’re in the form of booze and ice cream. The building that once held Blair’s Upholstery soon will be home to a brick-and-mortar version of Roxy’s Ice Cream Social, also known as one of the city’s most popular food trucks.
Building owner David Wanzer approached Raena Mutz, owner of Roxy’s, about opening the shop shortly after he purchased the building at 1732 NW 16th St. While she will continue to run the ice cream truck on a seasonal basis, the shop will be a traditional ice cream counter with fountain drinks, shakes and sundaes all made with her homemade ice cream.
Mutz anticipates a September opening.
Slaughter’s Hall coming to Deep Deuce
The people who brought you the ultracool whisky and cigar bar WSKY Lounge are bringing another exciting concept to Deep Deuce. The concept is called Slaughter’s Hall, and it’s named for prominent Deep Duece physician Dr. Wyatt H. Slaughter, who owned the building across the street.
“It’s pretty much the opposite of WSKY Lounge,” said owner Jarrod Holley.
It’s going to be a traditional, East Coast-style bar and deli serving lunch and dinner with “true, homemade sandwiches.”
“We’ll make our own pastrami, our own sauerkraut, good music and craft beers,” Holley said.
There will be 30 beers on tap, mostly all local and craft. He also plans on installing several televisions for watching games and hopes to be open by football season.
New: Pierre Pierre Crêperie
Sara Sara Cupcakes owner Eric Smith continues to make and sell his delicious treats in the metro. He has also opened a new concept in his lovely white house/shop on NW Ninth Street.
Pierre Pierre Crêperie is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day and offers sweet and savory crêpes. There are several to choose from in each variety as well as a build-your-own option. All crêpes are gluten-free. Smith plans to expand to dinner service in the near future. For now, you can get your lunch treats, including its new salted caramel milkshakes, here.
And what could possibly be better than cupcakes and crêpes? Cupcakes, crêpes and booze! Sara Sara and Pierre Pierre have applied for beer and wine licenses through the ABLE Commission and hope to be serving beverages of the adult variety next month.
