This years festivity comes with a heavy dose of Oklahoma artists. Even among a slate of highly anticipated releases from the likes of David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and Metallica, the collaborative album from Oklahoma Citys The Flaming Lips stands as one of the most-talked about.
The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends features such all-star guests as Yoko Ono, Nick Cave, Erykah Badu, Bon Iver, Coldplays Chris Martin, Biz Markie and Ke$ha.
The double-vinyl title features one-of-a-kind, multicolor discs. Still more limited (read: expensive) versions of the 13-track album will be infused with the blood of many of the contributors.
Another Okie highlight comes from Winter Boys, a new project featuring Jesse Tabish of Other Lives and Tyson Meade of Chainsaw Kittens, released as a limited-edition 7-inch single on Guestroom Records house imprint.
Speaking of Guestroom, all three locations will host parties with live music and free drinks, beginning at 12:15 p.m. with Student Film and Crown Imperial at the Bricktown location, at 2:45 p.m. with Deerpeople and Jacob Abello at Western Ave., and at 6:30 p.m. with Brother Bear, Beau Jennings and Locust Avenue in Norman.
Elsewhere, from 10 a.m. to 8 a.m., Trolley Stop Record Shop, 1807 N. Classen Blvd., hosts a record swap meet and golden oldies music trivia show hosted by DJ Dale Wehba.
