As the city spends over $18 million on new sidewalks across Oklahoma City, Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid has requested that some of the funds be used for concrete pads for dedicated bus shelters.

Shadid has requested the council vote on a resolution amending the MAPS 3 sidewalk master plan to include construction of bus stop pads at locations approved by the city’s director of the public transportation.

The voter-approved MAPS 3 program initially dedicated $9 million to construct 70 miles of sidewalks. In 2013, the council voted to double that amount.

Shadid’s resolution will be introduced to the council during its Feb. 3 meeting.
