But dont tell that to ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer, who had this to say moments after the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Jones in the NFL Draft: I went through all Landry Jones 2012 film and I just disregarded it. I do not hold him accountable for what happened last year. The offense is a joke. Its spitball. The receivers are brutal. The playcalling is brutal. They take him out in the red zone, they never let him get into a flow.
My final grade on Landry Jones is go back to 2011, hes a high-ceiling guy. I like a lot about him. I hate what they did with him in 2012.
All
right, so its admirable that Dilfer is trying to defend Jones (we
think?), but what in Bob Stoops visor is he talking about? Two of those
brutal wide receiv- ers were selected in the draft.
And
2011? Jones threw five interceptions and zero touchdowns in the
seasons final three games after Ryan Broyles his security blanket
went down with an injury.
While there are valid criticisms to be made on the state of Sooner football, Dilfers was just … weird.
