Will Rogers International Airport has unveiled a long-range expansion plan designed to prepare Oklahoma City’s airport for passenger growth over the next 25 years.
The “Cleared for Takeoff” plan outlines a phased expansion that could eventually increase airport capacity from about 4.6 million passengers annually to as many as 20 million. Plans call for additional parking, expanded terminal space, more gates and redesigned passenger drop-off and pickup areas.
The first phase, tied to reaching 6 million annual passengers, would include a new five-level parking garage with 1,538 spaces, improvements to the rideshare area and demolition of Garage A.
A second phase, planned as passenger traffic approaches 8 million annually, would expand the terminal frontage and concourse to accommodate 24 to 26 gates, including space for at least one widebody aircraft. A permanent two-level terminal roadway is also planned.
The airport’s long-term vision calls for as many as 40 gates when passenger traffic eventually reaches 20 million annually.

Some improvements are already underway. New terrazzo flooring is being installed throughout portions of the terminal, roadway work near Terminal Drive and Amelia Earhart is scheduled to begin this month, and restroom renovations are planned in the baggage claim and ticketing areas. Those projects are expected to continue through 2027 and early 2028.
Airport officials said final designs and materials could change as the expansion moves forward.
