Beloved Oklahoma artist Brunel DeBost Faris left behind a wealth of creative talent and inventiveness. The popular collage and drawing mastermind is remembered for his teaching career at Oklahoma City University and contribution to art.
His exhibit, “Selected Works,” is on display in the Governor’s Gallery, located on the second floor of the state Capitol, until March 7. He died in 2005.
Ann Dee Lee, public information director of the Oklahoma Arts Council, said Faris was an incredible artist, boasting a vast amount of work.
“This exhibit gives people the opportunity to see what’s out there across the state in art emphasis, and to illustrate to people what kind of talent and expertise we have in the state of Oklahoma,” Lee said.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Oklahoma City in 1937, Faris graduated from Classen High School and went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine arts from the University of Oklahoma. He was:
” a founding member of the Oklahoma City Arts Festival,
” chairman of the art department at OCU, and
” director of the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery in OCU’s Norick Art Center.
