A full quarter of travelers plan to take a “near-cation” — that is, to stay close to home. The Cambria Suites survey found that 93 percent of those travelers cited money-related reasons for doing so.

Not surprisingly, prices at the pump remain a key element in determining vacation plans, with 56 percent citing rising fuel costs as their reason for taking a near-cation. In addition, 46 percent believed that fuel costs have made airline travel not as affordable for them.

The online survey was conducted in May among 1,030 adults 18 and older. —Gazette staff
