Using movement and music to learn, Miss Ginger loves nothing more than to see the look of amusement on a child's face.
As a teacher of the Kindermusik curriculum for 30 years, Ginger Waldrip will teach a free class 10 a.m. Friday at the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library, 300 Park Ave.
"Kindermusik is a curriculum where music stimulates the brain through music and movement, developed for early childhood," Waldrip said.
The program uses music to teach toddlers to children up to age 7 to develop social, physical and cognitive skills, she said. For her class, Waldrip has children play various instruments while reading a story in a musical way. They also will sing songs and play musical games.
Through Kindermusik, she said children are exposed to different styles and types of music, and are encouraged to sing, move and play with percussion instruments such as the glockenspiel, tambourine, cymbal, wood block, triangle and drum.
The 50-minute class is open to metro children ages 2 through 5 with a parent. To have an instrument provided for a child, register with the library by calling 231-8650, ext. 4. "LeighAnne Manwarren
